When your baby arrives, their body carries the story of how they entered the world. Whether your birth was straightforward or complex, it’s common for newborns to hold subtle patterns of tension – especially in the head, neck, or jaw – that can affect feeding, sleep, and comfort. Craniosacral therapy (CST) offers a gentle and effective way to support your baby’s body as they integrate and recover from their birth experience.
At Lilac, our providers are specially trained in craniosacral therapy for infants. Referrals are often from midwives, ENTs, and lactation consultants. CST is a proven and effective, gentle, non-invasive tool that can help improve latch, ease digestion, support deeper sleep, and soothe babies who seem uncomfortable in their bodies.
Early Movements
During pregnancy and birth, babies experience a wide range of positions. From misalignment in the womb, to prolonged or misaligned labor experiences, cesarean, and birth complications can all impact a baby’s range of motion and freedom of movement in the early days of life.
Lingering tightness or asymmetry that makes it harder to feed, sleep, or settle with ease. You might notice your baby always turning their head one way, struggling with latch on one side more than the other, seeming gassy or tense, or just feeling “off.” CST can help.
What to expect at a CST visit
Craniosacral therapy uses gentle touch, often no more pressure than the weight of a nickel, to support the body’s natural healing and facial unwinding process. Your baby will be fully clothed, cradled, and supported throughout the session. Some babies sleep through the entire visit; others nurse, wiggle, or rest in your arms. You can hold your baby and participate in whatever way feels right for you and your baby during their session.
One of the most beautiful parts of craniosacral therapy is that it honors the intelligence of your baby’s body. The work doesn’t force or fix. It listens, supports, and follows. Sessions are relaxing, restorative, and often result in noticeable shifts, especially in feeding and comfort within the first day or two of treatment. Our team is skilled in working with babies from birth onward, and we’ll walk you through each step so you know what to expect.
